Guide. We have a new design to our registration booklet that will make navigating through our course catalog easier. Most notably, we are moving toward a Career Pathways focus as this aligns with our school district's mission, vision and commitments.
|
The Pathways FocusRedesigning the guide was a necessary step to make the transition toward the organization of the Career Pathways model. This opportunity gave us time to rethink other areas of the guide. The redesign also seeks to eliminate redundancies, create more clarity, and develop uniformity in the core curriculum areas.
|
Our GoalAs we continue to refine the Career Pathways and Capstones experiences, the registration guide has grown to provide more structure and clarity for its' users. Arranging the courses into the Career Pathways was the first step in making this transition. A change of this magnitude will require many carefully planned adjustments over time. The "Soft Roll-Out" is accounting for the paradigm shift this direction requires in our thinking about education in the 21st century.

Three Major Changes
All electives are placed into the pathways that they relate to best. Removed from their original department based format, courses complement and highlight cross-curricular connections within each pathway. To help make finding our elective courses easier there is a master list of all elective courses. The list is organized alphabetically by pathway and can be found on page 16. Conveniently, on the opposite page, all courses are listed by department.
|
A new system of icons were created to easily identify courses that need further identification or explanation, for example, classes with college credit opportunities The icons were created to simplify and eliminate the repetition of the same information throughout the guide.
Icons found in the guide book include; Arts Credit, Hybrid offerings, CIS, AP, CTE, and CLEP. Descriptions of the icons can be found on page 15. Further detail on pages 7 and 8. |
The Core Curriculum is gathered together and arranged after the pathways beginning on page 39. The departments are ordered by the total number of credits required for graduation. Within the content area, the classes are arranged in grade level sequence. There are also tables that outline advanced progressions of course study for Selective 4-year colleges and Advanced Placement (AP).
